How do I access library databases off campus?

Answer

In order to use most of the PI Library databases, eBooks and online library resources from off-campus, you will need to log in using you PI user name and password.  When you click on the link to the database you're looking for, a login page will come up. You will need to enter your PI user name and password to enter the database (the same username and password you use to enter your PI email, Blackboard, and other services).

To find databases look up in the alphabetical listing, subject listing or go to the LibGuides for help choosing the database you need for your research topic.

Common problems when logging into the databases:

Off-campus login: Forgot you PI login information

It's the same user name/password you use for login on public station on campus, webmail, and other services. If you forgot it or for some reason this is not working please contact PI IT department.

Cookies, firewalls, pop-up blockers, and computer security systems

Sometimes the security settings on your computer will keep you from logging into the database server. Check to make sure your computer allows cookies. You might also need to turn off any pop-up blockers. If this doesn’t work you can check with our IT department.

If you you are trying to log on from work or from an off campus public computer, you may not have access to the adjustments you would need to make. In this case you need to speak with a technology administrator or IT person from your organization to help you

Clear the cache in your browser

In some cases you may need to clear the contents of your browser cache and restart the browser to solve access problems. Each browser has its own procedure for doing this. Check the help function on your browser or do a search on Google to find detailed instructions.

Google Toolbar

A common problem can be the google toolbar since it has a built in popup blocker. The star and exclamation point is to let you know the popup was blocked. You can temporarily disable it or hold down the control key when clicking on the link. Here is a link to a video that would explain how to disable the pop ups: http://toolbar.google.com/popup_help.html
